I urgently needed a new boiler fitted for my rental property due to a total failure after 10 years of good service. I wanted someone local to me and who was able to do the job at short notice. I asked some friends who recommended Adam. It’s always a worry when using tradespeople but straight away Adam made me feel reassured and talked me through the whole process. He went the extra mile getting the job completed a day after asking without any inconvenience to my tenants and at a price that suited me. I thoroughly recommend Adam who was quick, polite tidy and knew his trade.

Adam attended a call out for a loss of pressure with my boiler, he diagnosed the fault very quickly and explained that pressure gauge was no longer working. He replaced this for us and explained how the water had calcified on the gauge. After changing it we still experienced Intermittent loss of pressure and after applying some fernox leak sealer fixed the issue. The boiler has worked perfectly since, very knowledgable, experienced and friendly and I would definitely recommend him for boiler related issues his fault finding was spot on.

What is the best combi boiler for a 2-3 bedroom house?

Any 24kw to 28kw combination boiler should be sufficient for this size property. As long as the incoming mains pressure is checked prior to it’s installation. Combination boilers should not be fitted where there is poor incoming flow rate, they do not increase the water pressure. Please also bear in mind they will probably only give you a good flow rate to one standard bathroom at a time. Check that your installer has done his homework as per the manufacturers specifications before it’s fitted. Also consider how many radiators you have on your system and whether you may be adding any more or even adding an on suite etc before installation. Also make sure you also get the extended warranty and it’s fitted by a qualified Gas Safe Registered engineer.

What are the benefits of powerflushing?

Correct Power-flushing will clear debris from heating systems. This debris is usually caused by either incorrect piping causing air to be sucked into the system ( on conventional gravity type systems ) or due to a lack of maintenance allowing corrosion of the metals in the heating system. This debris can cause damage to the boiler and additional components such as pumps and valves. Once the system is flushed I would advise fitting a magnetic filter and inhibitor to the system. Once a system has been properly flushed you should notice an improvement to the heating of your system. However most Boiler manufacturers do not ask for a system to be power flushed before fitting a new boiler. They request that a hot chemical flush is carried out in line with the fitting of a magnetic filter as mentioned above. Check with your installer his recommendation as to which of the above would be beneficial to your system etc. Please bear in mind that old pipework, pipes in concrete and small bore may not be able to accommodate the pressure from a power flush and a chemical flush would be a wise and safer route to take.

What are the benefits of installing an unvented cylinder?

Unvented hot water cylinders are pressurised and well insulated. As such the have a faster reheat time than a conventional cylinder and save money. They give hot water at mains pressure as long as the pressure is good enough for one to be installed and can supply multiple bathrooms with little pressure loss. Cylinders come in various sizes depending on hot water requirements for the property. Some come with twin coils that can be linked to solar panels or combined with conventional heating systems. As long as they are sized and fitted properly by a professionally qualified unvented installer. They will give you years of good service and save you money. Ensure your installer is properly qualified to fit these appliances.
